Sleep Like a Baby

This is the course short description.

Sleep issues are one of the most common symptoms in mid aged women. Approx. 47% of women in perimenopause and 60% of postmenopausal women struggle with sleep.

Sleep and mental health go hand in hand. The way you sleep plays a vital role in the maintenance and development of many psychological problems. In the same way, many of us are also familiar with ways that we lose sleep due to the stresses we face in our daily lives and how this affects us as we go about our days.

This can be especially unfortunate as sleep can help combat many fallouts of several mental illnesses. The amount and quality of your sleep can heavily influence your outlook on life, your energy levels, sense of control over your emotions, and performance in day to day tasks.

Sleep Program has been designed with the help of holistic experts and has different modules listed below:

  • Sleep 101: Intro to Sleep Issues
  • Natural Healing for Sleep
  • Nourish with Nutrition: Learn how different foods can impact sleep.
  • Move the Body: Learn about simple exercises that can help with sleep.
  • Food is Medicine: LEarn recipes and drinks
  • Your Breath + Yoga: Calming Yoga and breathing techniques
  • Press the Points: Acupressure points

Holistic Therapies Included in the Sleep Program

Integrative Psychiatry: Integrative Psychiatry is a holistic approach to psychiatry that takes into account the whole person and their lifestyle. The focus is not only on the absence of disease, but also on prevention, optimizing health and wellness, and facilitating the body’s natural healing response. The approach is based on scientific evidence, blending the best of modern medicine with the wisdom of ancient practices. Treatment may include psychotherapy, nutrition and supplements, yoga, exercise, and meditation practices. Medications may be considered when appropriate but are not the focus of treatment.

Ayurveda: Originating in India thousands of years ago, Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest whole-body systems of medicine.  In Sanskrit, “Ayur” means life and “Veda” means science – Ayurveda is the science of life. The goal of Ayurveda is not only the absence of disease but also to promote a balanced state of health and wellbeing. There is an understanding that the body, mind, and spirit are connected and that imbalances in one system will affect the other. The Ayurvedic approach to treatment is personalized and involves a detailed assessment of one’s current lifestyle, diet, digestion, daily habits, and health status, and treatment may include nutrition, herbs and supplements, lifestyle modifications, and specific yoga, meditation, and exercise practices depending on the nature of the imbalance.

Sleep Medicine: Sleep Medicine is the field of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders including insomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, hypersomnia, and sleep related breathing disorders like obstructive sleep apnea. Physicians who specialize in sleep medicine have completed additional subspecialty training. Because poor quality sleep affects so many different aspects of health, sleep specialists come from a variety of backgrounds including Psychiatry, Neurology, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, and ENT. This clinic is not equipped to perform sleep studies, but we specialize in the interface between mental health and sleep and will refer patients to a sleep clinic for additional testing when needed.

You will be able to understand and deploy strategies that combine Functional Medicine + Naturopathy + Ayurveda + Yoga to help yourself get better sleep! You will be able to self evaluate your sleep and circadian rhythm and find effective ways to enhance your sleep so that you can function at your best.

Find balance by uncovering the root causes of the symptoms that might be holding you back.

Understand the integrative framework that includes self diagnostic testing, nutrition, meditation, yoga, cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, and principles of coaching and Ayurveda.
